As a graduate from Florida State University, Dr. Susan Poyo spent her formational years and experienced her initial teaching positions in Miami, Florida, as a Mathematics instructor for both public middle school and private elementary special education. She has been a Catholic educator for over 25 years and has experiences extending from K-12 to Higher Education and Adult Education in Miami, Fl., Raleigh, NC, and Steubenville, OH.

Dr. Poyo has been recognized nationally and internationally as the recipient of the 2016 iNACOL Research Award and 2019 United States President’s Service Award for her leadership in the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Teacher Education Network.  Currently the Director of Undergraduate Education and an Associate Professor at Franciscan University, her pre-service teachers are a constant source of encouragement and inspiration for her research, presenting research and professional development in TPACK, Curriculum Design and Assessment, and Online Learning. She has published a chapter on Online Learning and is an active leader for the ISTE Teacher Education Network.  Preparing teachers to educate the 21st century learner through the lens of Catholic Identity is her passion, as she engages her students in the use of social media, flipped, blended, and online learning, encouraging effective integration of technology in planning and assessment for learning. Susan earned her doctorate in Instructional Technology and Leadership from Duquesne University and has been married to Deacon Ralph Poyo for 35 years.  As a Catholic educator, Dr. Poyo is committed to constant conversion and lifelong learning.
