Education

Emma Starre is living out success in the education field as the Intervention Specialist for Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Toledo, Ohio. She also teaches 6th grade religion and integrated language arts at the school, which allows her to prepare the 6th graders to live out the principles of Catholic social teaching in class and in the community through field trips and service opportunities. In her second year at the school, she has also taken on teaching for her parish School of Religion program and co-running the Student Leadership Council.

Starre was the recipient of the Faith Focused Award from her principal while student teaching at Franciscan, where she says her faith was enriched and renewed. A highlight of her education was a semester abroad in Gaming, Austria. During the school’s pilgrimage to Rome, the original icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help sparked her devotion to Our Lady by this title, to whom she credits her current job.

Franciscan’s education department gave her the experience and tools needed to be a successful teacher. Through professors like Dr. Tiffany Boury, Starre says she learned to teach with creativity and ingenuity, engaging her students in the thrill of learning.

“The program prepared me well to instruct the whole person and help young minds recognize their human dignity and worth,” she says.
